This song is pretty dang depressing... but anyways its about a young boy named Tommy that is playing with his friend Joey and they are having a good time and everything when Tommy finds his dad's gun and they are already playing cowboys so he says "you be good and i'll be bad" and so he points and shoots and didn't know it was loaded. Joey dies and they have a funeral and everything is different.
It skips some years till he's older and has a girlfriend... they are drinking and having a grand ole time, but don't think about where they are parked and that's when the train comes and smashes into them killing them both.
Super depressing. But Rascal Flatts saw the inspiration to write about it from somewhere whether they knew people that that had happened to or what but anyways...
I really liked this because in the chorus they keep saying "it's not supposed to go like that... life is a journey..."
those were the key two phrases that i like just because it goes to show that things happen and it may not be for the better, they will be hard and you have to move on throughout life and take things as they come and not let them get you down.
Depressing song but thoughtful and meaningful at the same time.
